GREEN SCREEN DREAMS

A community art experiment that explores reality, fantasy, and uninhibited collaboration.

Cambridge locals were asked what they would paint if they could paint anything. They were then instructed to paint a canvas entirely green while answering the question. The seven painted works were hung at the Karen Aqua Gallery in the lobby of Cambridge Community Television in Cambridge, Massachusetts for 6 weeks.

The color green overwhelms this series due to its peculiar duality - being the most natural and unnatural color of our time. It is the color synonymous with the unaffected environment, yet it is the same color used to digitally alter any given environment into a fantasy land of our choosing.

The color reinforces the notion that nothing is at it seems - and maybe that’s okay.

Maybe that makes things more interesting.

Maybe it makes things more real.

Maybe it allows for us to reach what we want without fear.

GREEN SCREEN DREAMS, above all else, asks:

If we can manipulate the outcome, can we still fail?

What would happen if everyone could green screen their dreams into their immediate reality?

Other artists featured in the series include: Tanina Carabotta, Andres Benjamin Chiriboga, and Jameson Johnson.
