TRYING TO REMEMBER BEING BORN
A SERIES OF MEMORY-INFLUENCED EXPERIMENTS
TRYING TO REMEMBER BEING BORN
TRYING TO REMEMBER THE FIRST DISTORTION
TRYING TO REMEMBER BEING BORN attempts to uncover a memory that never existed. An impossible task.
TRYING TO REMEMBER THE FIRST DISTORTION attempts to recall a memory in its original state. An equally impossible task.
Remembering is not an act of retrieval - it is an act of simultaneous creation and destruction. Each remembrance is accompanied with an alteration, making our fondest memories our most distorted.
If our brains inherently modify the way we remember our lives, how do other forms of documentation impact our personal narratives? If we are endlessly corrupting our own memories by revisiting them, what kind of additional manipulation occurs when photos or videos are introduced to this already disorienting equation?
Is it possible to embrace this distortion instead of damning it?
If so, by what means?
The MEMORY VARIATIONS series is a collection of experiments which utilize various artistic mediums and scientific recall processes to visualize the unconventional nature of remembrance. These variations toy with the impossible and the invisible, offering alternative approaches to amnesiac apprehensions.
